Start a journal about the struggle to live simply. |
Contribute $1 into your collection bank for ELCA World Hunger for every pound you feel overweight |
Smile because your glass is half full, not half empty. |
Give your blessings specific names and, in prayer, thank God for them. |
Memorize a scripture passage about hunger. Matthew 25:33-40 or Luke 3:10-11 |
Save all your trash today. Look at how much you have; think of ways to reduce waste. |
February 24 Turn off your air-conditioning today (or lower your heat). Put $1 into your bank for World Hunger. |
Stop saving items to “read later”. Read them now or recycle them. |
Teach your children how to fix things rather than throwing them away. |
Drink water instead of soft drinks; eat smaller portions of food. |
Think of a gift you would like for yourself; now purchase it and give it to someone who really needs it. |
For each angry or sad person you encounter today, help another one laugh. Laughter heals. |
Every time you drive your car today, put $1 in your bank to help combat global climate change. |
March 3 Don’t worry about small things; try to do something about bigger problems today. |
Think about the first thing you touch today. How much value does it have compared with people? |
Hand wash dishes for an entire week starting today. Donate a $1 to World Hunger each day. |
Take time to walk with your friends or family after dinner. Make it a walk with God. |
For dinner or snack, eat a vegetable or fruit native to another country. Pray for those who grew it. |
Pray that others - your family, people at school or work will join you in living more simply. |
Weigh what you throw away today. How much was truly not usable? How much did you discard without thinking. |
March 10 Buy used clothing from thrift shops. Put the money saved toward ELCA World Hunger. |
Engage in 1 hour of restful meditation, retreat, or reading scripture or other devotional materials. |
Write notes today to encourage your loved ones reminding them how special they are to you. |
Save water: Take 5 minute showers today and for the rest of the week. |
Plan today how you will decrease your daily spending by living with less for a month. |
Talk together with your family about the size of your garbage can; what would it take to adjust to a smaller size? |
Telephone a friend or loved one you have not seen lately; talk about what’s important. |

Prepare a cold meal and use candlelight rather than electricity. Consider doing this again. |

Find out where you can recycle office paper & junk mail. Cut down on the use of all paper. |
Extend small kindnesses to others: smile, open a door for someone, give our place in line to someone. |
Commit to find others who will pledge to recycle. |
March 24 Take a walk outside and look for the smallest and largest evidence of God’s created beauty. |
Spend time with your family without TV, radio or other electronics. |
Determine how you will live for one year with your old TV, computer and cell phone and be satisfied with that decision . |
For one 24 hour period this week have your family live in only 1 room of your home. |
Decided what you can continue to do for the next month, year. |
